Mission:
The Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting Corporation Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee’s mission is to advocate for inclusive and equitable practices within the organization by examining systemic barriers, creating internal accountabilities, and fostering community partnerships. We work to create a culture that embraces, supports, and encourages everyone to fully participate and thrive in our workplace community and the communities we serve.
Vision:
We envision a future in which Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting is a champion of diversity, equity, and inclusion in Western Pennsylvania as well as in national public media. We nurture a culture that celebrates our differences, respects individual identities, encourages mutual learning and sharing of knowledge, and develops independent programming that is supported by and accountable to the communities we serve.
Native Land Acknowledgement :
It is the Vision of Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting to foster a community that is well-informed, inclusive, and engaged. Truth and acknowledgment are critical to building mutual respect and connection across all barriers of heritage and difference, thereby strengthening our community and living up to the commitment of our mission.
It is in that spirit that we acknowledge that the Community Broadcast Center rests on the traditional lands of the Seneca Nation, part of the great Iroquois Confederacy. Read more here.

But we also recognize that our “community” is not a single and homogenous entity: rather, it’s a big tent of interwoven communities, rooted not just in a shared geographic location but in race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, social class, faith, age, disabilities and abilities, and political persuasion.
As a public media organization, our charge is to serve this entire diverse community. We do this best when we reflect that diversity in our staff, our programming, our community presence and in our governance. To that end, we have made a commitment to creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organization – reflected in the work we produce, the policies we observe and the culture in which we function.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion is not just an initiative at Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting: it is an inextricable part of who we are and is critical to our mission to serve all of Western Pennsylvania. Each of us in this organization has made a personal commitment to ensure that the values of diversity, equity and inclusion are centered in our individual workplans.
We know that we are better – as a community and as an enterprise – when we embrace our diversity as a source of strength. And we know that by constantly improving the inclusiveness of our organization, we best represent all the communities that we seek to serve.
We welcome your active participation in this work by holding us accountable to these commitments, and by partnering with us to achieve our goal to be of service to all.
