From the time Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting was founded nearly a half-century ago, we’ve sought to serve Western Pennsylvania with programming that informs, enriches, and strengthens our community. But we also recognize that our “community” is not a single and homogenous entity: Rather, it’s a big tent of interwoven communities, rooted not just in a shared geographic location but in race and ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, social class, faith, age, disabilities and abilities, and political persuasion.

As a public media organization, our charge is to serve this entire diverse community. We do this best when we reflect that diversity in our staff, our programming, our community presence, and our governance. To that end, we have made a commitment to creating a more equitable, diverse and inclusive organization — reflected in the work we produce, the policies we observe, and the culture in which we function.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion is not just an initiative at Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting: It is an inextricable part of who we are and is critical to our mission to serve all of Western Pennsylvania. Each of us in this organization has made a personal commitment to ensure that the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion are centered in our individual workplans.

We know that we are better — as a community and as an enterprise — when we embrace our diversity as a source of strength. And we know that by constantly improving the inclusiveness of our organization, we best represent all communities that we seek to serve.

We welcome your active participation in this work by holding us accountable to these commitments and by partnering with us to achieve our goal to be of service to all.
